Piisma servopump: an investment that pays for itself in one year

Interfluid develops solutions to reduce energy consumption of industrial machinery and help the environment, such as the variable speed drive system Piisma. The impact on the energy consumption is such as to allow  the investment to be paid off in 12 months of usage.

The main objection raised when evaluating the addition of technologically innovative systems within the company is that linked to the initial cost of the investment. The cost of innovation can often appear high when compared to traditional systems.
However, the impact of new technologies must be evaluated over a long periods of time, and be considered on the basis of a study of costs related to the system itself, such as energy consumption or the frequency of maintenance interventions.

  • How much surplus energy does the plant take but not use?
  • How much does it cost?
  • How many spare parts are needed in traditional systems, and at what time interval are they replaced?
  • Are they still available on the market, or are they obsolete?
  • How often does the oil need to be changed?

These are just some of the questions we should ask ourselves before assuming that an alternative solution is too expensive for our budget compared to those more traditional. Companies that face a change must be ready to do so in a conscious and strategic manner, as it is not enough to just have the technology: one must be able to exploit its full potential. Openness to change is first and foremost needed, followed by mastery of the material that allows the new technology to be used in a pre-existing system.

Use of servo pumps in industrial applications

When it comes to a change that concerns energy consumption, awareness also consists of being able to do something for our future.

For some time, Interfluid has invested its resources in the development of solutions that reduce energy consumption and help the environment, such as the Piisma servo pump

If you have not already done so, we invite you to read the article in which we discussed how it is possible to save energy in hydraulic systems and the importance of mapping energy consumption, also in light of the goal of achieving climate neutrality in Europe by 2050.

The use of servo pumps in industrial applications is technology that is still not very widespread, but is ready to establish itself on a large scale thanks to the possibility of energy savings up to 80%, as well as improving the quality of work by reducing noise emissions from machinery.

A variable speed drive system such as Piisma does not change the performance of the system, and has the additional advantage of reducing its size compared to standard equipment through the simplification of the hydraulic system.

The main advantages can be summarised as follows:

  • Energy savings of up to 80% (similar to the energy consumption of an electric car, to give a concrete example).
  • Adjustment of the number of revolutions and pressure according to the individual moment of the production process and real need for operation.
  • Simplification of the hydraulic system through the elimination of proportional valves, for example.
  • Tank volume reduction of up to 80%.
  • Noise reduction up to 20 dB during the machine cycle, and 100% during the cycle pause.
  • Longer pump life.
  • Maximum repeatability of flow/pressure parameters.
  • Increased system performance.
  • Lower overall weight of the pump motor unit.
  • More compact size (reduction of overall dimensions by over 60%).
  • Less heating of the oil and surrounding environment.

The maximum advantage of the system is obtained in all periods of the machine cycle in which there are no variations in pressure and flow rate: electricity consumption tends to cancel itself out thanks to the very low number of revolutions with which the synchronous motor is driven by the inverter.

Interfluid is able to support you in every phase of the project, from the design of the system and solving the specific production needs of each company, to the initial set-up of the machine.

Over the years, we have acquired extensive experience in many sectors such as plastics, die casting, automation, and waterjets, to name a few.

Our dedicated technical support accompanies you starting from determination of the size of the servo pump, the analysis of the cyclogram, to the supply of technology with on-site assistance upon commissioning. In this way, you will be able to use the technology at its full potential, and calculate the benefits obtained after just a few months of use.

Our experiences to date have shown that the savings obtained through Piisma allow the investment to be paid off in one year.
